Dental Hypnosis

The Effects of Hypnosis

You may be familiar with situations, in which you are so engrossed in an activity that you do not notice how time passes and what happens around you. If this ever happened to you, you were in trance - the so-called "everyday trance". Every person is capable of such states of trance. We use this natural ability in our practice to the benefit of your health. Through hypnosis, we direct your attention inwards to a positive and pleasant experience, which you can select beforehand (e.g. a nice holiday memory). Your body relaxes, and your inner rhythms like breathing and pulse rate slow down. The subsequent intensive occupation with your personal experience lets external influences - like the dental treatment - fade into the background. However, you are still responsive at any time during the hypnosis, able to follow the doctor's instructions and - if desired - follow the treatment again for short periods.

Your Advantages

Hypnosis can help uneasy and frightened patients to experience treatment as much more pleasant. This experience in turn can help you to overcome your fear of dental treatment bit by bit. The experience of exposing yourself to a very frightening situation and master this situation successfully additionally has a very positive effect on your self-confidence. One patient once remarked: "When I manage to overcome my fear of a dental treatment, other fears are no problem anymore."

Hypnosis Treatment in our Office

At your first appointment, please tell us your exact fears or problems, whether you have already gained experiences with relaxation techniques, where you would "like to go" during treatment and anything else of importance to you. For patients not yet familiar with hypnosis, we also integrate a short relaxation trance in this first appointment. This introduction appointment allows us to meet your individual requirements and wishes. Usually, treatment starts at the next appointment already.

The Difference between General Anaesthesia and Hypnosis

The advantage of hypnosis is that your awareness is completely blocked. This allows us to perform very extensive treatments in a short time, and you will not feel anything. The disadvantage of this type of treatment is that you will not learn a new kind of behaviour or get rid of your fears. However, the objective of treatment under hypnosis is to show you new ways and strengthen your confidence in your abilities to such an extent that you will be able to undergo treatment without hypnosis or anaesthesia in the future.

The Costs of Hypnosis Treatment

Hypnosis for dental treatment is not part of the services of statutory health companies and normally also not covered by many private health insurance companies. For you as patient, this means that you may have to pay for the incurred costs yourself. For one hour of treatment, we charge 65 €. For the introduction and the first dental treatment under hypnosis, we charge a flat fee of 95 €. For more information, please contact our hypnosis therapist Ms. Kerstin Briese. She will be glad to assist you.
